Something for nothing– that’s my kind of deal. So I was delighted when my neighbor across the street offered me some surplus daylilies from her landscaping. My wife and I have been talking all summer about planting lilies along the foundation at the back of the house. We had other ideas for the space, too, but this offer of free flowers sealed the deal for us. While my wife put our son to bed, I tucked the lilies into their new bed behind the house. With some good watering, these hardy plants should be all ready to brighten up our back garden by next spring.
Knowing how daylilies propagate, we’ll surely have some to share in a couple years. Then we can give some other neighbor the joy of free flowers.
