Upstairs Railing

Mike over at the Foxcroft houseblog is looking for railing examples for his upstairs remodelling project. I responded to his inquiry on the American Bungalow forums to let him know I’d post some photos of the railing in our bungalow as an example.

Our railing is nothing particularly special. It is painted (for now) and not as intricate as what Mike appears to be planning. All I can say is that it is authentic. The only special feature of the railing is a small chest built into the end railing. The chest is a handy place to store spare linens or stash errant toys just before company arrives.

I like those railings/ballusters (sp?). I tend to prefer the craftsman or mission style clean straight lines. Turned spindles with too many details or scroll work make me sad and angry….grrrrrrr.

And if Hollywood has taught us anything, Homeimprovementninja, it is, “Don’t upset the ninja.”
