Workshop: Before and After

There is still some tidying to do and I need to find something to do with the lumber from the old storage units, but this phase of the basement workshop project is otherwise complete. Here’s what the workshop looked like a couple weeks ago:

Since then I demolished the old storage units and a cardboard covered wall, installed a pair of electrical outlets, hung and finished some new drywall, and installed new storage shelves. Now the space is more pleasant and organized for my other home projects:

Some day I’ll need to do similar work in another portion of the workshop, but that work can wait. Now my sights are set on restoring the south upstairs bedroom. I plan to start working there this weekend.

I like the wooden shelf units. Are they purchased or homemade? I’d like to make some for our basement but haven’t decided on a design.

After I priced the lumber for homemade shelves, I chose to purchase these “Gorm” pieces from IKEA. The wood isn’t top grade by any means, but the shelves look nice, stand sturdily, and adjust easily. The convenience of having IKEA less than 10 minutes away helped the decision, too.
