Ballad Of The Remodeler
House projects took a break this past weekend so I could travel to Boston for the wedding of one of my college roommates. The ceremony was loving and sincere, the reception was stylish and decadent, and the happy couple were radiant throughout. Congratulations, Karl and Hannah!
For the wedding, I played bass and guitar in a band that performed at the end of the ceremony. Playing in the band reminded me how much I enjoy making music and how rarely I have made time for that interest lately. So although I am looking forward to diving back into my bedroom remodeling project this week, I am also thinking about when to find time to tinker with the guitar.
I think I should write a song about old house projects. Have your home improvement projects inspired you to song or verse? Do you have a renovation theme song, a mix CD or an iPod playlist that accompanies your house projects?
Share your old house song suggestions in the comments. It could be a tune that specifically references houses or remodeling, or it could be a song that captures your feelings or keeps you motivated. Or if you’re the literary type, whip up a lyric you think would make a great “Ballad of the Remodeler,” or “Old House Blues,” or whatever. Maybe your verse will be just the inspiration I need to put down the hammer and pick up the guitar for a little while.

Gah! I should have known to search HOP first…
I didn’t come up with the HOP iMix when I searched iTunes, but I obviously didn’t search well enough– probably only looked for “home” and not “house,” or something like that.
My theme song would be Whippen’ Post by Allman Bros because my house just flogs the hell out of me.
Okay, I’m not giving you tunes… I am telling you – I want pictures:) I want pictures of you and [Ms. Bungalow] and [First Born Son], I want pictures of Karl’s wedding and anyone else that was there – I want photos. I miss you guys. And do you remember the brief 5 minutes that you tried to teach me how to play the guitar? I talk about that all the time with our friends (14 & 15) who just got electric guitars – I tell them about how my fingers are too short and my wrists don’t twist enough, but that my friend tried to teach me. Delta days… I miss them – and I miss you:)
