Month One, Baby Two

When last I blogged, I was preparing for the arrival of my second son. Now nearly five weeks have passed and we’re having a wonderful time. Number Two was a healthy 8 pounds, 6 ounces and 21 inches at birth and he has bulked up to over 11 pounds since then. Despite my solid “proud papa” credentials, I’m going to maintain my privacy conventions and not post the name or a photo of the baby here. Take my word for it: he’s freakin’ adorable. (Family and friends– your birth announcement with photo should arrive soon if you don’t have it already. Email me if (gasp!) I’ve somehow missed you.)

Even though I continue to have more on my list of personal projects than I would prefer–particularly a snail’s-paced job search– I’m feeling a lot more energized to get back to work around the house. I got a bit of emergency work done recently which I’ll post in a day or two. But I’ve also been walking around the house dreaming about when I’ll get the chance to restore the subway tile to the main bathroom, or how the kitchen could be remodeled to put back the breakfast nook. Considering I have been too busy to even think about the house, this is progress. I also ventured into the nursery for the first time in at least a month and I could feel a surge of energy to get back to my project there. How could I have gone this long without getting my fix-it fix?

All of this is to say that I’m acclimating to nights of interrupted sleep and I would now rather strip paint or hang drywall than take a nap. That’s not exactly a giant leap in my progress around here, but with a five-week-old in the house, baby steps are appropriate– if not unavoidable.

Housekeeping Note: I apologize that the photo page appears to be temporarily broken. I’ve upgraded to WordPress 2.1 and I’m not sure that my flickr plugin kept up with me. I’ll try to get that page restored soon.
