Minneapolis Bridge Collapse

Everyone here is fine following the collapse of the Interstate 35W bridge over the Mississippi River in downtown Minneapolis. It took us until about 7:00 last night to learn what had happened, roughly an hour after the bridge fell into the river carrying rush-hour traffic with it.

By now surely anyone reading this page has had the opportunity to hear about this calamity from their news source of choice, but here are a couple local links to information and pictures:

I watched the television coverage for a few hours last night and poured over the newspaper this morning. There have been stories of heroic rescues, brave citizens, and well-trained professional responders: inspiring reactions to a horrible event.

Neither Ms. Bungalow nor I used the 35W bridge on a daily basis and we do not yet know of any friends, neighbors, or acquaintances who were affected. Certainly we feel personally fortunate, but also undeniably mournful for the injured and for the loved ones of those who are known to have died or are still missing.

Thanks to all the friends and family who called or sent emails to check that we are alright.

The bridge collapse is so horrible. 🙁 Glad you and all your friends and family are okay.
On a much lighter note, your house is just stunning. Can’t wait to see more progress and, of course, pictures!

Thanks for the sympathy and for the house appreciation. As for more progress, well, that’s what we’d all like to see, isn’t it? It’s the actual *making* of the progress that sometimes trips me up.
