Our Tiny Oak Park Bungalow just helped me get the name of this butterfly I photographed atop some joe pye weed in my garden a couple weeks ago. Apparently it’s a Black Swallowtail, which sounds a lot better than what I had formerly called it: “big blue butterfly.”
Credit for the insect identification properly goes to a commenter at Building a Better Bungalow, the source referenced by the post on Our Tiny Oak Park Bungalow that I happened to read. From Building a Better Bungalow to Our Tiny Oak Park Bungalow to me, it’s funny that we were all looking for the identity of the same kind of butterfly at about the same time and found our answers sequentially. Clearly a few of us housebloggers are playing swallowtail tag, and it looks like I’m the latest to be “it.”

I'm Josh and since 2005 I have shared home improvement stories and ideas from my family's Arts & Crafts bungalow in Minneapolis, MN. I'm trying to combine the best of 1923 with the best of the 21st century-- and I hope it won't take another 88 years to do it.

That picture is heavenly! I saw a Monarch today that made me happy during a long day at work.
Good for you, Dulcie. I think most of the pretty things here have fled for warmer climes.
