Elephants As Renters

Republican Last night, Ms. Bungalow mentioned that one of her coworkers is considering renting out her house next fall when the Republican National Convention is in the Twin Cities. Sure enough, a search of Craigslist shows that plenty of other people think their houses can hold a few republican elephants for a week.

There are mansions on St. Paul’s historic Summit Avenue for rent, as well as modest ranches and cape cods in Minneapolis near the airport, and the rental rates appear very enticing. So Ms. Bungalow and I are seriously considering renting out our place for the convention week. The rental income could be very helpful with the projects we have undertaken or have in mind for the future, and we wouldn’t mind being out of town during the convention, either. Preparing the house for renters would also provide a useful deadline to finish up some projects around here.

Have any of you readers ever offered your home as a short-term rental or arranged a house swap? Or are you planning to come to the Republican convention and want first dibs on the ol’ bungalow if we offer it for rent? Talk to me below in the comments.

My last house was a weirdly-converted sixplex with tiny little apartments. I furnished 5 out of the six and rented them short-term. I had nothing but GREAT experiences with that! The tenants were all wonderful, responsible, professional-types, and I was able to make some decent money on units that would have otherwise been pretty difficult to rent.

Now, I must admit that this is different than renting your own home, with all of your personal stuff in it… but I’d still consider it, myself.
