Site Update Live

The new Bungalow ’23 site is now live with an updated design. Here are a few highlights:

  • Most content is now tagged. Clicking a word in the tag cloud in the left sidebar will filter for content with that tag.
  • Site search uses a live popup feature. Just type your query into the search box and hit enter. A list of matching content will appear in the sidebar for your clicking pleasure.
  • Photo album, links and archives pages are all retained, though they are each styled slightly differently than before. These are accessed through the site menu, which has been moved to a more prominent position above the content column at the center.

The only transfer errors I know of are three or four recent comments that are in limbo, unattached to their intended post. I’ll keep trying to straighten that out. (Update: All posts and comments now properly imported.) Also, I am in the process of going through the entire archive to clean up legacy formatting issues and assign categories and tagsLet me know what you think of the new design or if you see something that looks like a bug.

Hi, Josh! Welcome back! There is a bit of white space at the beginning — at first I didn’t think there was anything there until I scrolled down a bit. I like the “Top Commenters” spot and all those other bells & whistles! LOL

Thanks, Sandy. I’d like your help with the whitespace issue you mention. I tested the site with Firefox 2, IE7, and Safari for Windows and it looks fine (no excessive whitespace) in all of them. I know IE6 can render differently sometimes. Can you tell me which browser and version you are using when you have the layout trouble? Thanks!

Hi, Josh! Both computer that I use have IE6. I still use Windows ME at home (I know, I know… it’s old, it’s unstable…. I’m working on it LOL), so that could be the problem. The minute I saw IE7 I figured it was my browser. Hope this helps!

Thanks Sandy. I’m off to find a compatibility test for IE6.

@Ben: Thanks, I’m glad you like it!

@Sandy: I don’t think the site was completely fixed when you were here, but it should be now. In my tests it is rendering the same in IE6 and IE7, as well as Firefox2 and Safari3. I’m so grateful you brought the layout issue to my attention– a solid 25% of my traffic uses IE6.

@everyone: I’m sorry if the site was broken or unstable during your visits over the last few days. Thanks for your patience as I edited the code.
